Briner Transfers to Join Eagles for 2013 Campaign

Jill Briner will transfer from Northeastern to compete for EMU
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University Head Volleyball Coach Kim Berrington has announced that Jill Briner (Oak Park, Ill.-Oak Park and River Forest (Northeastern)), a member of the 2011 and 2012 Northeastern University women's volleyball teams, will be transferring to EMU for her junior and senior campaigns.
Briner, a two-time All-Colonial Athletic Association standout, will be eligible to play for the Eagles immediately at the beginning of the 2013 campaign. The Oak Park, Ill. native was named a 2012 All-CAA Third Team member in her sophomore campaign at Northeastern. She set single season highs in kills (218), assists (547) and digs (204) during the 2012 season, while also sporting the second-most kills on the Huskies' roster. Briner split time hitting and setting for NU as she was second on the team in assists and averaged 5.70 assists, 2.27 kills and 2.13 digs per set in 2012.
Briner recorded a triple-double with 10 kills, 12 digs and a team-high 30 assists, as well as seven block assists, in a season-opening win over Alabama in 2012. Briner was named the 2011 CAA Rookie of the Year after her freshman season at Northeastern, while also being named to the CAA All-Rookie Team. Briner also earned All-Tournament team honors at the 2011 Beanpot Tournament in Worcester, Mass.
Prior to attending Northeastern, Briner played club volleyball for 1st Alliance Volleyball Club, while also playing for her high school team, Oak Park and River Forest High School. She was a four-year letterwinner at Oak Park and River Forest, while also being named the team's most valuable player in a pair of seasons for the OPRFHS Huskies. She was named all-conference on three separate occasions during high school.
Briner is a stellar student along with her athletic accolades. She was named Academic All-Conference and to the Northeastern Dean's List in 2011. She plans on being an Accounting major at Eastern.
