Eagles Stung by Yellow Jackets, 12-0

2/8/2013 7:13:00 PM | Softball

EMU fell to the host school in Atlanta, Ga.

ATLANTA, Ga. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University softball team dropped its second game of 2013 Friday, Feb. 8, as they fell 12-0, to Georgia Tech. The Eagles were only able to scrape out one hit from the Yellow Jackets in their second game of the Georgia Tech/Kennesaw State Invitational.

Eastern (1-1) posted just one hit, which was a double off of the bat of Amanda Herron (Columbus, Ohio-St. Francis De Sales). Despite striking out just five times, the Eagles had just two base runners as Cassidy Jenkins (Columbus, Ohio-St. Francis De Sales) drew a walk.

In the circle, Lauren Wells (Lowell, Ind.-Lowell) made the start and went five innings, allowing six runs on 11 hits. Wells (0-1) struck out three and walked four in the loss. Lindsay Rich (Perrysburg, Ohio-Perrysburg) went the final two innings for EMU. Rich was touched for six runs on three hits.

Georgia Tech posted their first run in the second inning when Morgan Taylor connected on a one-out single to score Kelly Delashmit, who was running for Karly Fullem, to give GT a 1-0 lead. Fullem had ripped a one-out double one batter earlier.

Eastern saw its first base runner in the bottom of the second when Herron roped a double to left-centerfield with one out. Jenkins later walked that inning to make it runners at first and second with two outs, however EMU could not convert.

The Yellow Jackets added a pair in the third to make it 3-0 after three innings of play. Georgia Tech ripped four base knocks to score in the third.

Eastern was able to hold the GT offense at bay until the sixth when the Yellow Jackets broke through for three runs on a pair of hits and a walk, making it 6-0. The Eagles could not return the favor offensively and saw Georgia Tech add six more runs in the seventh to cap-off the 12-0 loss in Atlanta, Ga.

The Eagles continue their road swing through Georgia Saturday, Feb. 9, when they take on both Kennesaw State University and the University of Butler. EMU and KSU square off at noon in Kennesaw, Ga., while the Green and White will hit the diamond at 4 p.m. to  faceoff with the Bulldogs.
