Tennis Adds Two for 2013 Season

Zsofia Biro and Silvia Martinkova to join the Eagles in January
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University Head Women's Tennis Coach Ryan Ray announced, Jan. 2, the addition of Zsofia Biro and Silvia Martinkova to the tennis team. The two will begin playing for the Green and White in January.
"I am very pleased that Zsofia and Silvia have chosen to become part of our tennis family," noted Coach Ray. "They both are very accomplished players and good people. I look forward to them helping our program for the team season starting in January, and finishing their careers very successfully at Eastern Michigan."
Arriving with junior eligibility, Biro makes her way to Eastern Michigan via stops at Stephen F. Austin and Cowley Community College. While at Cowley, the Pecs, Hungary native helped her team to a No. 4 ranking to finish the 2012 season. Also during that season, she was ranked as high as 12th nationally in singles and second nationally with doubles partner and current Eagle Diana Davitaia.
Throughout her junior career, Biro ranked in the top-10 of Hungarian junior tennis players along with a personal-best No. 182 spot in the International Tennis Federation world junior rankings.
Martinkova will be an incoming freshman when she joins the Eagles in January. A native of Trencin, Slovakia, she achieved a No. 32 national ranking in all of women tennis as well as a No. 12 ranking in the Under-18 category. Previously she was No. 28 in the U16 European rankings.
The EMU tennis team will serve up 2013 with a trip to Lincoln, Neb. to face Nebraska-Kearney and the University of Nebraska, Jan. 11-12.
