Gymnastics Begins 2013 Season at Western Michigan

Eagles open the year with a MAC road contest in Kalamazoo, Jan. 20
MEET NOTES
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team begins its 2013 campaign Sunday, Jan. 20, by traveling to Kalamazoo, Mich. to take on the Western Michigan University Broncos at 1 p.m. The Eagles open up with conference play to begin their 31st season under head coach Steve Wilce.
RETURNING: The Green and White return 17 gymnasts from 2012 and welcome four freshman for the upcoming season. Seniors Brittany Cassar, Camille Cicchini, Amanda Fuller and Kristina Kurkmilis will help lead the young Eagles this season.
LOOKING TO MAKE A STATEMENT: The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team has been predicted to finish seventh in the Mid-American Conference, as the conference office released the 2013 MAC Gymnastics Preseason Coaches' Poll Wednesday, Jan. 2. The league's head coaches picked Kent State to win both the regular season conference crown as well as the 2013 MAC Gymnastics Championship set to be held March, 24, in Kalamazoo, Mich. 2012 MAC Gymnast of the Year Marie Case returns to make the Golden Flashes the favorite this year after Kent State finished runner-up to Central Michigan in the conference championship last year. Western Michigan was selected to finish second while Central Michigan was picked third followed by Bowling Green, Northern Illinois, Ball State and Eastern Michigan.
EAGLES HOPING HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF: Last time the Eagles faced the Broncos, EMU came out victorious, 193.025-192.225, at Bowen Field House, Feb. 11, 2012. The Eagles were able to deliver the Broncos their first loss of the season, while also tallying a season-high team score. Jamie Radermacher led the Eagles on the vault recording a team best 9.750, good for second place. She also added a stellar performance on the balance beam as top performer earning a career-high 9.825. Radermacher completed her record-setting performance on the floor exercise earning runner-up accolades recording a career high 9.775.
WHAT'S NEXT? BACK TO YPSILANTI: EMU returns home Saturday Jan. 26, at 7 p.m. for its second conference meet and first home meet of the year, taking on the Falcons of Bowling Green State University inside Bowen Field House.
