Seven current members and two former standouts will compete at a shot for representing their respective countries in London

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Two former standouts and seven current members of the Eastern Michigan University swimming and diving teams will be competing at the 2012 Olympic Swimming and Diving Trials in hopes of representing their respective countries at the London Olympic Games, July 27-August 12.

Current Eagles Briana Emig, Jacob Hanson, Mike Fisher, Troy Esentan, Mike Swain and Brian Moore as well as former swimmers Kevin Doak (1999-2003) and Derick Roe (2005-'09) have all qualified to compete at this year's trials, June 25-July 2 in Omaha, Neb. Andrew Saunders recently concluded action at the Canadian Olympic Trials in Montreal, Quebec, May 25-27.

Emig, a first-team All-MAC and Mid-Major All-American selection, will represent the lone member of the women's squad as she will head to Omaha to swim the 400 IM, 400 freestyle and 800 free.

Hanson, a 2012 NCAA All-American and two-time Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Year will compete in both the 100 and 200 backstroke events, while first team All-MAC selection and Mid-Major All-American honorable mention recipient Esentan will race in the 200 breaststroke and 400 IM events.

The trio of Fisher, Moore and Swain, each second team All-MAC recipients, will also trek to Omaha in hopes of representing the United States in London this summer. Fisher will swim the 100 breaststroke event, Swain will compete in the 200 distance and Moore will take part in the 200 and 400 freestyle events.

Doak, a three-time first team All-MAC selection during his tenure for the Green and White, qualified for the Olympic Trials this summer and is slated to compete in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly events. Roe, a two-time Swimmer of the Year for EMU, will swim in the 50 freestyle.

First team All-MAC selection Saunders recently wrapped up action at the Canadian Olympic Trials, where he took part in the three-meter diving event after qualifying with his performance at the 2011 Canadian Winter Diving Championships and World Cup Trials, Dec. 15-17, in Victoria, British Columbia. At the Olympic Trials, Saunders placed 16th in the preliminary round with a six-dive total of 313.65, falling just short of the qualifying for final round.
