Diana Davitaia and Klara Supejova to join the Eagles for the upcoming season
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University head women's tennis coach Ryan Ray has added two recruits for the 2012-13 season.
Joining the Eagles this fall will be Diana Davitaia (Tbilisi, Georgia-Cowley County Community College) and Klara Supejova (Prague, Czech Republic).
“These two signees should be great for our program,” Ray said of the latest additions to the roster. “ They are strong players, and good people and should help us get closer to the top of the conference. We hope to add more like them to our lineup for the Fall or Spring Season.”
Davitaia, a two-time National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-America selection, was a national junior college runnerup in singles and a semifinalist in doubles in 2012 while competing for Cowley County Community College in Arkansas City, Kansas. She was ranked as high as No. 1 in singles and No. 2 in doubles in the national Junior College rankings. Davitaia lost just two singles matches all year while earned Region III Sophomore of the Year honors in 2012. She helped Cowley County finish fourth as a team at the NJCAA Division I National Championships.
In addition, Davitaia has also been ranked as high as No. 812 in the Junior ITF rankings. While playing in her home country of Georgia she was an under 16 National Singles Champion and was ranked 15th in the under 16 European Tennis Association.
“Diana has a great game, Ray said of Davitaia. “ She has beaten some very good players this past season at Cowley. She's a smart player, has a great on-court attitude, and should fit into our lineup very nicely.”
Supejova has been ranked as high at No. 77 in the Women's Czech rankings and as high as No. 14 in the Junior Czech rankings. In addition she finished second in doubles at the National Indoor Junior Championships in 2010 and third in the National Summer Junior Championships in 2010 in the Czech Republic.
“Klara has a smooth game,” Ray commented. “ Her movements are very natural. She has wins from her country over two very good players, currently in the Big XII Conference. She should also bring a solid doubles game to the court for us.”
