Parks Adds 15 for 2012-13 Campaign

The EMU women's track team has added 15 members to its team for next year

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University Women's Track and Field Head Coach Sue Parks has received commitments from 15 student-athletes for the 2012-13 campaign. As she looks toward adding another Mid-American Conference championship to her arsenal, Parks announced the signing of Ellie Braidic (Pandora, Ohio-Pandora-Gilboa), Vanessa Clerveaux (Brockton, Mass.-Brockton), Brittany Crew (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Birchmount Park Collegiate Institute), Latipha Cross (Novi, Mich.-Southfield), Makeda DeBardalaben (Saginaw, Mich.-Arthur Hills), Iesha Hardiman (Santa Clara, Calif.-Wilcox), Melanie Hill (Champlin, Minn.-Champlin Park), Michelle Klein (Dexter, Mich.-Dexter), Aaliyah McKinney (South Bend, Ind.-John Adams), Alysha Newman (Delaware, Ontario, Canada-Mother Teresa), Kayla Pfund (Shelby, Mich.-Macomb Community College), Rebecca Quaintance (Commerce, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern), Marina Manjohn Rivadulla (Spain-Escola Universitaria del Maresme Mataro), Tericka Threatt (Sugarland, Texas-Fort Bend Dulles) and Morgan Yeadon (Indianapolis, Ind.-Pike) Tuesday, May 8.
“I am extremely excited about our 2012-2013 recruiting class,” remarked coach Parks. "The coaching staff worked hard to bring in quality student-athletes who will help us continue to be a threat in the MAC and beyond. We feel that this class fills a lot of needs for our team and we are pleased to add both quality and depth in all event areas. We still have a few more athletes to add but this is an incredible start to our recruiting efforts."
Cross comes to Ypsilanti from Novi, Mich. where she attended Southfield High School. She is a sprinter who was crowned as the Michigan State Champion of the 400-meter dash in 2011, setting a state record of 54.29. Her personal bests include a 23.95 in the 200-meter dash and a 2:11 in the 800-meter run.
Yeadon is a sprinter from Indianapolis, Ind. who has recorded many championships through her time in high school. She is the 2010 and 2011 Indiana State Champion in the 200-meter and a member of the 2010 4x100-meter team that won a championship. The Indianapolis, Ind. native was the 2010 and 2011 Indoor State Championships in the 55-meter dash. In addition to her state championships, she is also the 2010 Youth Outdoor National Champion in the 100-meter and 200-meter. Her personal bests include a 7.05 in the 55-meter, 7.67 in the 60-meter, 11.90 in the 100-meter, 24.10 in the 200-meter and a 56.36 in the 400-meter.
Clerveaux is the 2012 Indoor Division-1 State and New England Champion in the 55-meter hurdles. She is the Massachusetts State Record Holder in the 55-meter hurdles and the 2011 Massachusetts Indoor State Champion in the 55-meter hurdles and 4x200-meter relay. The Brocton, Mass. native is also the 2011 Outdoor State Champion in the 55-meter hurdles and 4x100-meter relay.
Hardiman comes to the mitten state from Santa Clara, Calif., where as a sprinter she was a two-time CCS Champion in the 400-meter sprint as well as a three-time state qualifier and two-time state finalist. Hardiman has been named to her all-league team for three years as well as being named team MVP in three consecutive seasons.
McKinney comes from South Bend, Ind. to sprint for the Eagles. She has personal bests of 7.30 in the 55-meter sprint, 12.27 in the 100-meter dash, 24.69 in the 200-meter dash and 56.63 in the 400-meter.
Threatt is the final sprinter in the Eagles' 2012-13 class. She will travel from Sugarland, Texas to join EMU with personal bests in the 100-meter dash with a 12.01 and a 24.90 in the 200-meter dash.
Crew joins the Eastern Michigan tradition from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The thrower has set personal bests in the shot put of 46-feet and 5.50-inches and the discus of 144-feet and four-inches.
Newman travels from Delaware, Ontario, Canada to compete as a hurdler and pole vaulter for EMU. Newman placed 12th at the 2011 World Youth Games and has set personal records of 13-feet and 1.50-inches in the pole vault, while also completing the 100-meter hurdles in 14.62.
Braidic is the 2010 Ohio State Pole Vault Champion. The Pandora, Ohio native has a personal-best of a 12-feet and seven-inch leap.
From Dexter, Mich. is Klein, another pole vaulter. Klein has set a personal best of 10-feet and six-inches for the pole vault.
The Eagles also add multiple distance runners to their arsenal for the 2012-13 campaign, including the Spanish-born Rivadulla. Rivadulla has competed in sprints and distance events, including setting personal bests in the 400-meter (59.28), 800-meter (2:09.03) and 1,500-meter (4:37.64).
The Shelby, Mich. native Pfund has earned national recognition at Macomb Community College, while setting high marks in multiple events, including a 5:06.72 mile run, an 11:30.87 finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, a 17:53.27 in the 5,000-meter run and a 22:12 finish on a 6,000-meter cross country course.
Quaintance will start at EMU as the third sister in her family to run for coach Parks. Quaintance has recorded personal bests in the 300-meter hurdles (46.62) and 5,000-meter cross country run (18:46).
DeBardalaben comes to EMU from Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw, Mich. where she set personal bests in the long jump (18-feet and 1.25-inches), the high jump (five-feet and four-inches) and the 200-meter dash (26.00).
Hill rounds out the 2012-13 class and is from Champlin, Minn. She is a jumper who has set a personal best in the long jump of 17-feet and 6.5-inches, while leaping 35-feet and 10-inches for a best in the triple jump.
The Eagles look to pick up another Mid-American Conference Championship this weekend at the 2012 Outdoor MAC Championships. The championships run from May 10-12 at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Mich.
