YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University baseball team is hosting its annual Detroit Tigers Summer Camp Monday, Aug. 6, and Tuesday, Aug. 7, at Oestrike Stadium. The Eagles will also host a baseball fundamentals camp on Monday, July 23 and Tuesday July 24, as well as a summer prospect camp Sunday, Aug. 5 and Sunday, Sept. 9.
The Eagles are inviting all baseball players ranging from ages seven to 13 to come join them in an instructional camp to improve hitting, pitching, fielding, catching and base running at Oestrike Stadium this summer. The EMU baseball squad and head coach Jay Alexander will be joined by members of the current Detroit Tigers roster to teach young baseball enthusiasts the ins-and-outs of the game.
The camp will be held Monday-Tuesday, Aug. 6-7, from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Registration cost is cheaper if attendees sign up prior to July 28, with one day costing just $80, while attending both days costs $140. Registration cost will include a t-shirt, a question and answer session with the Detroit Tigers, autographs and other prizes.
The baseball fundamentals camp will be held each day from 9:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. It will cover defense at each student's primary position and will include infield, outfield, catching and pitching. The camp will include offensive drills and techniques including bunting, base-running and hitting. Cost is $60 for one day and $110 for both. Each camper will get a camp shirt as well.
For the summer prospect camps, sessions will begin with a pro-style workout for all campers involving fielding from various positions. Games will take place beginning at 1 p.m. Each player will be scheduled to play in two live scrimmages with instruction from collegiate coaches. College coaches from other colleges will also be in attendance.
