Ejigu, George and Kalinowski Earn Academic All-MAC Awards

The Eagles had three men named to the team
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team was honored Tuesday, April 17, when a trio of its members were named to the 2012 Men's Indoor Track and Field Academic All-MAC Team, the Mid-American Conference office announced. Terefe Ejigu, Joshua George and Grzegorz Kalinowski were the three named to the conference's academic team.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
Ejigu, an international studies major holding a 3.50 grade point average, was named first team All-MAC after his showing at the 2012 Indoor MAC Championships where he took Most Valuable Performer honors. Ejigu took first in five different races this season, including two at the MAC Indoor Championships. The junior set a new Indoor MAC record in the 5,000-meter run by completing the distance in 14:14.06. The New Zeland native took at least fourth-place or better in every race he ran this season.
George, a biology major who holds a 3.53 GPA, was a standout runner in the 800-meter for the Eagles, including taking second at the Indoor MAC Championships with a 1:52.84. His best 800-meter of the season was a 1:51.22 at the Meyo Invitational. The Toronto, Ontario native won the 600-meter run at the Findlay Classic with a 1:20.93.
Kalinowski holds a 3.70 GPA as a marketing major and was named second team All-MAC for the 2012 Indoor campaign. The Lysomice, Poland native was a standout mid-distance runner for the Eagles who took second at the Indoor MAC Championships in the one-mile run with a 4:08.81. His best mile race came at the SPIRE Invitational when he ran a 4:03.77. The sophomore placed in the top-six in every race he ran this season.
