YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)- The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team hosts the Huskies of Northern Illinois University, the Falcons of The Air Force Academy and the Owls of Temple University for the ninth annual Eagle Invitational, March 10. Competition will begin at 7 p.m. in the Convocation Center.

LAST SEASON: Despite a season high team score, EMU fell to Kent State University, Saturday, March 12, at the 2011 Eagle Invitational, 194.025-194.900. Eastern outscored Kent State on only the floor exercise recording a 48.625 over KSU's 48.625. The Golden Flashes outscored the Eagles on the vault, bars and balance beam. Miranda Jarvis had an outstanding performance recording a career-high 9.850 earning her a first place finish on the floor exercise. She also matched her career-high on the balance beam posting a 9.700 finishing tied for sixth. Nikole Viltz finished first on the vault in a three-way tie recording a 9.800. Stacie Wood set a career-high record earning a 9.775 on the uneven parallel bars good for fifth place. Wood tallied a 9.725 on the floor exercise finishing tied for third with Kristen Yourick.

FLIP FOR PINK:  The Eagle Invitational will sport a different color in an effort to “Go Pink”. EMU Gymnastics will raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation to help contribute to the research of finding a cure for breast cancer. Last season the Eagles were able to raise over $4,000 for the cause and need the help of fans to raise even more this season.

LAST TIME OUT: EMU finished second at the Cornell Quad, March 3, recording a team score 192.225. Anna Willette earned the top spot on the vault recording a season high 9.825. Amanda Fuller and Kristina Kurkimilis finished tied for third place posting a 9.725. Wood and Taylor Patterson tied for third place on the uneven parallel bars tallying a 9.750. Meyers led the Eagles on the balance beam notching third place honors with a career high 9.725. Fuller placed fifth on the floor exercise earning a 9.700. Jarvis and Kurkmilis tied for seventh recording a 9.650.

UP NEXT: The Green and White concludes regular season action at Bowling Green State University Saturday, March 17. The first event is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
