Gymnastics Closes out 2012 Season

Eagles finish the season 10-9 overall
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)- The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team closed out its 2012 season, March 24, at the Mid-American Conference Championships in DeKalb, Ill. The Eagles tied for fifth with Bowling Green State University earning a team score of 193.150.
Freshman Anna Willette (Pylesville, Md.-North Harford) was a consistent leader for Eastern all season long. Willette ranked 30th in the MAC on the uneven parallel bars and 29th on the balance beam. The Pylesville, Maryland native was able to record season high scores of 9.825 on the vault, twice, most recently at Bowling Green, March 17, and 9.800 on the bars and beam. Fellow Freshman Paulina Miller (Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada-Citadel High School) has also been a top performer for the Eagles. Miller ranks 15th in the MAC on the balance beam, earning a season-high score of 9.775 at the Rutgers Quad, Feb. 25.
Seniors Kristen Yourick (Albuquerque, N.M.-La Cueva) and Stacie Wood (Brantford, Ont.-Brantford Collegiate Institute) exhibited excellent senior leadership on and off the mats throughout the season. Wood led the team on the uneven parallel bars and floor exercise, ranking 21st and 27th in the MAC. She compiled career-high scores of 9.800 on the bars and floor exercise. Yourick specialized on the floor for the Green and White, ranking 23rd in the MAC. She earned a career-high score of 9.850 at the ninth annual Eagle Invitational, March 10.
Kristina Kurkmilis (Eagleville, Pa.-Methacton) was a strong force for Eastern, ranking 26th on the vault. Camille Cicchini (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.-Royal Palm Beach Community) helped the Eagles on the bars while averaging 9.673 and finishing the season ranked 26th. Shawna Ciaramella (Hamilton, Ont.-St. Mary CSS), Kaylee Meyers (Saint Joseph, Mo.-Central) and Tracie Tamashiro (Honolulu, Hawaii-Kalani) were a solid trio on the balance beam. Ciaramella averaged 9.328 and was ranked 35th, Meyers averaged a 9.558 and was ranked 36th while Tamashiro averaged a 9.464 and was ranked 37th.
As a team Eastern averaged a 192.368. The Eagles more than doubled their wins from 2011, improving from four to 10 overall victories. The Green and White finished the regular season tied for fourth place, earning a team season-high score at the ninth annual Eagle Invitational, March 10, tallying a 193.850.
