Bianca Jordaan and Sydney McEachern commit to EMU

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University Head Gymnastics Coach Steve Wilce announced Tuesday, Nov. 20, that two signees, Bianca Jordaan (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada) and Sydney McEachern (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada), will be joining the team for the 2013 season.

"We are really excited about these two signees joining our program," said Wilce. "Bianca and Sydney may be two of the best athletes we have signed in one class. Both athletes have the ability to make a major impact in their first year on the team."

Coach WIlce has good reason to be excited about his recruiting class as both gymnasts have already had successful starts to their careers.

Jordaan, a two-time member of the Canadian National Team, competed at the highest level of competition in Canada. At the 2011 National Championships, Jordaan won the national title on the vault while also taking third on the beam and fifth on the floor exercise, leading to a ninth-place finish in the all around competition. The result earned her Senior High Performance Elite Level status.

Finishing second on both the bars and the vault along with third-place finishes on the beam and floor exercise, Jordaan took third-place in the all around competition at the 2011 Provincial Championships. She added to an impressive 2011 campaign with a third-place team award at the 2011 Wild Rose International.

With a Senior High Performance at the 2010 National Championship, Jordaan finished fifth all around with a win on the floor exercise and a runner-up finish on the vault.

Coached by Lawson Hamer at Futures Gymnastics, Jordaan also excels in the classroom, being named to the Academic Honor Roll.

Hailing from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, McEachern is a six-time Canadian Nationals competitor. Coached by Rachelle Valeil and Peter Grozdonovic at Springer Gymnastics, McEachern took fourth at the 2012 Canada Winter Games. She also turned in a solid all around performance at the 2012 Canadian Nationals, placing 11th.

McEachern captured the all around title at the 2012 Manitoba Opens while also finishing third in the all around competition at the 2012 Kyle Shefelt Gym Fest.

Starring in academics, McEachern has been on the Kappa Sigma High Honor Role each year she has been at the school. She has also won Excellence awards in biology, chemistry, and pre-calculus.
