EMU Student-Athletes Turn in Record-Setting Academic Effort

Eagles post best-ever cumulative and semester GPAs in Fall 2011
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University's student-athletes turned in a record-setting performance in the classroom in Fall 2011 Semester according to the latest report from the EMU Athletic Department Student-Athlete Support Services.
The Fall 2011 cumulative GPA for all student-athletes was the highest ever at 3.162. The 2011 Fall Semester GPA was a 3.147, also the best in history.
"This latest academic report is truly outstanding," EMU Athletics Director Derrick Gragg said. "Our student-athletes continue to improve on their classroom performance every semester and we are proud of that effort as well as the success they continue to generate in intercollegiate competition."
"Once again our Student Athlete Support Services office is proud that our student-athletes continue to challenge themselves in the classroom, said Erin Burdis, EMU Assistant Athletic Director for Academics. "Obviously, our staff and student-athletes take pride in academic success and this latest report proves that the hard work is worth the effort. In addition, out of 2,631 graded classes that our student-athletes were enrolled in during Fall 2011, only 80 were failed or dropped for an unbelievable 97 percent completion rate."
The golf team led all men's teams in Fall 2011 with a 3.294 GPA while the best women's GPA was turned in by the women's soccer team at 3.661.
There were 20 student-athletes that posted 4.0 GPAs during 2011 Fall Semester while 323, or 64.7 percent, had 3.0 or better GPAs.
