EMU Announces Challenging Men's 2011-12 Basketball Schedule

Eagles host Michigan State; hit the road for 11 non-league games

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — New Eastern Michigan University Head Men's Basketball Coach Rob Murphy and his Eagles will see plenty of the road in his first year at the helm as the Eagles will have 11 non-Mid-American Conference games away from the friendly confines of the Convocation Center in 2011-12.

Highlighting the 2011-12 schedule will be a Convocation Center appearance by the Michigan State University Spartans Sunday, Nov. 27. The Eagles also host Illinois-Chicago, Nov. 11, Arkansas-Little Rock, Nov. 18, and Rochester College, Nov. 23. The MSU and Arkansas-Little Rock tilts are part of the Spartan Invitational, five-team, four-game round-robin multi-team event hosted by Michigan State.

The Eagles open the Spartan Invitational Tuesday, Nov. 15, at Texas Southern before hosting UALR. Eastern then faces IUPUI on the road Sunday, Nov. 20, before closing out the round robin, Nov. 27, versus MSU.

Eastern is set to open the season Friday, Nov. 11, against the Horizon League's Illinois-Chicago Flames.

Other non-league road tilts includes travel to Syracuse, Nov. 29, Colgate, Dec. 1, Drake, Dec. 8, Purdue, Dec. 10, Radford, Dec. 20, Virginia Tech, Dec. 22, at the Cable Car Classic, Dec. 29-30, against Santa Clara and either Wagner or Air Force, and, Feb. 18, on the road for a BracketBuster Game that will be announced in February.

The MAC schedule, will see the Eagles play home-and-home games against West Division rivals Ball State, Central Michigan, Northern Illinois, Toledo and Western Michigan and home games against East Division opponents Kent State, Ohio and Bowling Green with East road outings at Akron, Buffalo and Miami.

All 12 men's teams will qualify for the First/Energy 2012 MAC Tournament, March 6-10. The top four teams after the regular season will receive byes and the fifth through eighth seeded teams will host the ninth through 12th squads in the first round of the tournament at campus sites, March 6. The four winners will then join the teams with the four byes at Cleveland, Ohio's Quicken Loans Arena for the remainder of the single-elimination tournament, March 8-10.
