EMU Golf Represented in 111th Annual U.S. Amateur

Derek East opened the tournament with a 77, while Marty Jeppesen shot a 73
ERIN, Wis. (EMUEagles.com) – Two members of the Eastern Michigan University golf family scored well in the opening round of the 2011 U.S. Amateur Championship, being played at Erin Hills Golf Course and Blue Mound Golf & Country Club. Marty Jeppesen (Saline, Mich.-Saline) and Derek East (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada-St. Paul's) are both competing in the event, now int its 111th year.
Jeppesen, the former Saline High School and Eastern Michigan University golfer, shot a 73 in the opening round at Erin Hills, while current EMU golfer, East, finished up his first round with a score of 77 at Blue Mound Golf & Country Club.
There has been a delay in second round action at both sites. Jeppesen is set to tee-off at 4:20 p.m. local time at Blue Mound, while East will set his sights on the first tee of Erin Hills at 5:20 p.m. The top-64 competitors will make the cut into match play after today's round.
