Former EMU Golfer Bob Proben to Play in U.S. Senior Open

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Former Eastern Michigan University men's golf standout Bob Proben will play in the PGA's U.S. Senior Open, July 28- 31, at Inverness Golf Club in Toledo, Ohio.

Proben, who played for the EMU men's golf squad from 1974-76, qualifed for the Senior Open by shooting a 69 to win medalist honors at a sectional tournament qualifier, July 1, in Dunedin, Fla.

Proben played for EMU from 1974-76 and was a first-team All-Mid-American Conference player as a freshman in 1974. Two of his brothers, Tom and Ray, also played for the then-Hurons. In addition, he won the Michigan Open title in 1990.

A PGA tour player off and on from 1979-92, Proben was the first-round leader at the Bob Hope Classic in the 1980 season. He also played in the 1985 and 1989 U.S. Open tournaments. His best tour finish was a tie for 15th at the 1988 Independent Insurance Agen Open and at the 1988 Bank of Boston Classic.

His brother, Tom, won the 2010 Re/MAX World Long Drive Championship in the Grand Champions division with a 366-yard drive.
