YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The eighth annual E-Gridiron Group (EGG) Golf Outing to support the Eastern Michigan University football team will be held Saturday, June 11, at EagleCrest Golf Club.
"Last year's golf outing was a tremendous success as we had another terrific turnout," third-year EMU Head Football Coach Ron English said. "We want to thank everyone that participated last year and invite them to participate in this exciting event again."
Proceeds from the event will support the football locker room renovation project. Renovations to the current locker room are a high priority and a critical need of the program. The plan is to replace all existing metal lockers with high-quality wood lockers, featuring seating and secure areas for personal items. The building will also receive a face-lift to include a fresh coat of paint, carpet replacement throughout and an update of furniture in the player's lounge. Numerous naming opportunities are available for the locker room project, including individual lockers at $2,000 each and leadership naming levels at $10,000 and up. For more information on the locker room project, contact Associate Athletic Director for Development Craig Fink at 734.487.8236.
The cost for this year's EGG Golf Outing is $150 for an individual golfer and $600 per foursome. In addition, a special rate of $100 is available for young EMU football alumni from the classes of 2007 through 2011. Check-in for the tournament begins at 9 am followed by a shotgun start for the scramble format event at 10 am. Tickets for the dinner only portion of the event are just $25. The post-round reception and dinner starts at approximately 3 p.m. For more information on the event or to register for the outing/dinner, please contact EMU Director of Football Operations Jake Kirkendall at 734.487.3420.
The EGG was formed in the spring of 2006 with its early focus set on building a leadership level of fund-raising support for EMU football. During the past five years the EGG has helped to raise more than $750,000. This is the largest amount of actual gifts received to date for a non-facility related project by a single group in EMU Athletics history. Those contributions have helped provide the football program with numerous upgrades and is leveling the playing field with the rest of the Mid-American Conference.
Since its official beginning in 2006, the EGG has expanded its goals and objectives to include not only fund-raising, but developing a broader membership program targeted at former football players, which was expanded to all family and fans of EMU football in the summer of 2009. More than 300 former football players have joined since the EGG began. For more information on the E-Gridiron Group, visit www.emueaglesfootball.com.
