YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University football team put the finishing touches on the 2011 spring drills with the Annual Green-White Intrasquad Game here Sunday, April 10, 2011, in Rynearson Stadium.
It was a perfect day for football, with the temperature in the mid-70s under clear blue skies, and the players put on a hard-hitting exhibition with the offense, in green jersies, taking on the defense, in white jersies.
The White Team recorded a 14-7 win in the scoring system that awarded both teams points.
“We stayed healthy and we ran the ball, as we tried to be efficient that way,” said Head Coach Ron English in his postgame radio interview. “We also got punts and kicks in there, so overall it was a good day for our football team.“
The Green (Offense) scored on its second possession of the game when quarterback Tyler Benz (Park Ridge, Ill.-Maine Township South) found wide receiver Nick Olds (Columbus, Ind.-East) for a nine-yard touchdown pass. The scoring drive was set up by a double pass from Benz to Olds who then found Matthew Brown (Detroit, Mich.-Cass Tech) for a 43-yard gain.
The White (Defense) forced a fumble in the second quarter which was recovered by Herb Waits (Saginaw, Mich.-Swan Valley) at the visitors 21-yard line.
The Green would then score on a four-yard run by Javonti Greene (West Palm Beach, Fla.-Royal Palm Beach).
The Green would close out the first half on a two-yard touchdown run by Dominique Sherrer (Cincinnati,Ohio-Colerain) with just three seconds left on the clock.
The halftime was used to recognize some of the top perfomers during spring drills, presented by the EMU Sports Performance Staff. The award winners are listed at the bottom of this story.
