U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (EMUEagles.com)- The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics came up less than a point shy against the Air Force Academy Wednesday night, March 2, in Cadet Gym as the Falcons edged the Eagles, 190.200-189.675.
With the loss Eastern falls to 4-8 (2-3 MAC), while AF improves to 3-9 overall.
Senior Nikole Viltz (Hawthorn Woods, Ill.-Carmel) had a solid showing finishing first on the vault recording a 9.800 and fourth on the balance beam tallying a 9.675. Viltz tied for second on the floor exercise with freshman Shawna Ciaramella (Hamilton, Ont.-St. Mary CSS) posting a 9.625. Ciaramella also tied for fifth on the beam earning a 9.600.
Freshman Ashley Quinton (Calgary, Canada-Bishop Menally) finished in second both on the vault and beam recording a 9.725 for both exercises.
Senior Kristen Yourick (Albuquerque, N.M.-La Cueva) and sophomore Kristina Kurkmilis (Eagleville, Pa.-Methacton) recorded a third place tie earning a 9.650 on the vault. Junior Stacie Wood (Brantford, Ont.-Brantford Collegiate Inst.) finished tied for second place recording a 9.700 for her performance on the uneven parallel bars.
Freshman Miranda Jarvis (Westminster, Md.-Westminster) contributed a third place finish earning a 9.700 on the balance beam.
The Eagles and Falcons compete once more, Saturday, March 5, at 6 p.m. MT before the Green and White return home to host the annual Eagle Invitational March 12, at Bowen Field House.
