BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (EMUEagles.com)
—The Eastern Michigan University softball team dropped a shortened six-inning, 1-0 decision to Indiana University this evening, March 19, in the Eagles' second game at the Hoosier Classic.

The Bloomington, Ind. area had experienced heavy rain yesterday leading to poor field conditions. As a result, games at IU's softball field were pushed back to accommodate postponed games carrying over from last night. The Eagles and Hoosiers were given a 6:30 start, but lack of lights at the IU Softball Complex and impending nightfall forced the coaches and umpires to call the game after six innings of play.

The loss snaps the Green and White's seven game winning streak and drops their overall record to 8-3 on the season. Indiana improves to 15-12 overall.

The Eagles have had no shortage of offensive support this season, however EMU struggled to string together hits this evening, recording just one hit from junior Jessica Richards (Canton, Ohio-Jackson) who singled in the opening frame of the contest.

Senior Jaclyn Caro (Chino, Calif.-St. Lucy's Priory) takes the loss despite giving up just one run on seven Indiana hits through five innings of work, while IU's Morgan Melloh earns the win (11-11).

EMU threatened early in the first inning, with Richards leading off the game with a single to shortstop. Katy Blaharski (Carleton, Mich.-Airport) advanced her to second with a successful sacrifice bunt attempt, but the Hoosier defense shut down the remainder of the side to get out of the inning.

Both teams remained scoreless through six until the Hoosiers struck in the bottom of the frame with back-to-back hits from Ashley Warrum and Sarah Olson to take the 1-0 advantage.

After a discussion between both coaches and the umpires, it was decided that poor lighting conditions created unplayable conditions forcing the game to be called.

Tomorrow the Eagles will wrap up action at the Hoosier Classic with games against both Michigan State and Loyola-Chicago. First pitch against the Spartans is slated for 10 a.m., while start time with the Ramblers in set for 2:30 p.m.
