Those exhibition wins prepared the Eagles for the 2011-12 season opener, Friday, Nov. 11, at home in the Convocation Center against the Flames of the University of Illinois-Chicago.

Guard Derek Thompson (Detroit, Mich.-Melvindale-SEMO) paced the Eagles with 17 points while guard Darrell Lampley (Linden, N.J.-Linden-Lakeland (Ohio) C.C.) added 12 and center Matt Balkema (Warren, Mich.-Cousino) tallied 10 to lead the Eagles to a 68-57 win over UIC.  Senior big man Kamil Janton (Tarnow, Poland-Chicago Bartlett) scored seven points with seven rebounds to help the EMU cause.

Murphy wasted little time in filling out his staff with experienced assistant coaches Mike Brown, Kevin Mondro and Benny White.

In addition to the coaching staff, Victoria Sun will serve as the director of basketball operations and Jake Presutti will be the director of player development/asst. sports performance coach.

LOOKING AHEAD: After a Nov. 15 meeting with the Texas Southern Tigers in Houston, Texas, the Eagles are scheduled to return to the Convocation Center for a home against Friday, Nov. 18, against the University of Arkansas-Little Rock (UALR) at 7 p.m.  Those two game are part of the Auto Owners Spartan Invitational hosted by Michigan State University.
