YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)- The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team came up just over a point shy against Ball State University, Saturday, Jan. 29, at Bowen Field House for “Beauty and the Beast” as the Eagles fell, 192.625-191.075.

With the loss the Eagles drop to 1-4 (1-1 MAC), while the Cardinals improve to 1-4 (1-1 MAC).

Senior Nikole Viltz (Hawthorn Woods, Ill.-Carmel) set the pace for the Green and White finishing second on the vault and balance beam posting scores of 9.675 and 9.960 respectively. The Eagles had a record setting afternoon starting with sophomore Kristina Kurkmilis (Eagleville, Pa.-Methacton) recording a career best 9.625 finishing tied for third with BSU's Nicole Allen on the vault. Kurkmilis also tallied a 9.450 on the floor exercise.

Junior Tracie Tamashiro (Honolulu, Hawaii-Kalani) and sophomore Camille Cicchini (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.-Royal Palm Beach Community) also recorded career best performances tallying a 9.675, receiving a tie for third place on the parallel bars. Tamashiro also earned a 9.025 on the beam.

Senior Grace Crouch (Bellbrook, Ohio-Bellbroock) had an excellent showing finishing tied for fourth on the balance beam with Ball State's Leah Wilson recording a 9.550. Junior Stacie Wood (Brantford, Ont.-Brantford Collegiate Institute) received a personal best 9.725 on the floor exerise.

BSU had Nicole Allen and Brittney Emmoms both compete in the all-around earning scores of 38.700 and 38.625 respectively.

The EMU wrestling team dominated at the event, defeating Oakland, 48-0, Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, 40-9, and Tiffin, 39-6. EMU has concluded its regular season non-conference schedule leaving only five matches left against Mid-American Conference opponents before post-season action ensues.

Gymnastics is back in action Friday, Feb. 4, traveling to Kalamazoo, Mich. to take on the Broncos of Western Michigan University. First event is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
