ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team won six events Saturday, Jan. 22, at the University of Michigan's Harvey-Simmons Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich., but perhaps none was more impressive than that of sophomore sprinter Ashlee Abraham.
Abraham, who went into the event with the best 60-meter dash time in the Mid-American Conference, won the 60-meter dash and tied a Michigan Indoor Track Building record with a time of 7.41. The time tied a 2005 mark set by Jenna Harris of Ohio State. Abraham's record-tying performance was also good for the twelfth-best time in the country this year in the event.
The Eagles faired well in the field as senior captain Jessica Novakowski performed well, also extending her MAC-best jump height to 13-01.50. It was the thirteenth-best height cleared in the nation this year. Freshman Shnell Wishart also continued her hot streak, winning the triple jump with a leap of more than 39 feet.
Dejaa Shearer's win in the 400-meter dash and Naomi Andre's win in the 200-meter dash rounded out the Eagle's individual wins, while the team also scored a victory in the 4x400-meter relay.
The women will be back in action in one week when the team hits the road to State College, Pa., for the Penn State National Invite.
