Men's Swimming and Diving Falls To No. 13 Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) —The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team dropped its cross-county match up against the No. 13 University of Michigan, 141-98, this afternoon, Jan. 15, at Canham Natatorium.
With the loss, the Eagles drop to 1-3 on the season, while the Wolverines improve to 3-2-1 on the year.
The Eagles took two events on the afternoon, with wins by Andrew Saunders (Halifax, Nova Scotia-Halifax West) in both the one and three-meter dives. On the one meter boards, the Green and White swept the podium with Saunders taking first with a score of 328.88, followed by Jeffrey Craig (Kent, Ohio-Kent) placing second (310.50) and Mitch Kellerman (Erlanger, Ky.-St. Henry) taking third (285.60). Saunders then picked up his second first-place finish on the three-meter, posting a the top score of 328.64 for the victory.
Jacob Hanson (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) added two second-place performances on the afternoon in both the 200 individual medley and 200 backstroke. In the 200 IM, he finished in 1:55.01, just 0.61 seconds behind Michigan's Tony Wahl. Teammate Michael Swain (Ann Arbor, Mich.-Huron) completed the distance in 1:55.18 to finish in third for EMU. Swain also posted a second place, 2:06.05 performance in the 200 breaststroke and was followed by a third place effort from Troy Esentan (North Little Rock, Ark.-Central) who completed the event in 2:06.37.
In the 100 freestyle, the Eagles swept 2-3-4 with Matt Zavislak (Commerce Twp., Mich.-Walled LakeNorthern) leading the way with a 46.99, second place showing. August Everson (Sandusky, Ohio-Sandusky) followed in second after touching the wall at 48.49, and freshman Dexter Foos (Fremont, Ohio-Fremont-Ross) came in third at 49.67.
EMU would take second in the 500 free after Ricky Linder (Cypress, Texas-Cy-Woods) completed the event in 4:47.93. Gilles Renard (Huy, Belgium-Athenee Royal de Huy), who also placed third in the 1000 free earlier in the meet, took third behind Linder with a time of 4:48.60.
The Eagles will return to action next Saturday, Jan. 22, when they host Mid-American Conference opponent, Buffalo at Jones Natatorium. The meet is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
