YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University Head Men's Basketball Coach Charles E. Ramsey and his Eagles will face a challenging 2010-11 schedule with 12 home dates, 13 road tilts and two in-season tournament appearances this year.
“The 2010-11 schedule is definitely a very challenging one,” Ramsey said. “We had 14 home games last season and now we have to return some of those games and with two tournaments on the road that makes for a lot of time away from the Convocation Center. We also play one of the nation's premier teams when we travel to Michigan State for a Nov. 12 date, but the good news is that the Spartans will return to the Convocation Center for a date in 2011-12.”
Eastern's non-league home schedule in the Convocation Center includes Drake (Dec. 8), Detroit (Dec. 11), a team to be determined and a Bracketbuster Game (Feb. 19) against a to be determined opponent.
In addition to the date at Michigan State, the Eagles will have single-game non-league road tilts at Canisius (Nov. 20), at James Madison (Nov. 27) and at Samford (Dec. 30). Eastern is slated to join host Oakland University, Valparaiso and Rochester College, Dec. 20-21, in the Lou Henson Tournament at the O'Rena in Rochester, Mich. and will be paired with host Idaho, North Dakota and Monmouth College in a round-round Basketball Travelers Invitational, Dec. 3-5, in Moscow, Idaho.
After playing those non-conference games the Eagles will embark on a tough 16-game Mid-American Conference regular-season schedule that will have the Eagles hosting Northern Illinois (Jan. 11), Ball State (Jan. 19), Central Michigan (Jan. 23), Akron (Feb. 2), Miami (Feb. 5), Buffalo (Feb. 12), Western Michigan (Feb. 27) and Toledo (March 4 or 5).
The MAC road schedule includes trips to Toledo (Jan. 8), Western Michigan (Jan. 16), Ohio (Jan. 26), Bowling Green (Jan. 29), Kent State (Feb. 9), Central Michgian (Feb. 16), Ball State (Feb. 23), and Northern Illinois (Mar. 2).
All 12 men's teams will qualify for the First/Energy 2011 MAC Tournament, March 8-12. The top four teams after the regular season will receive byes and the fifth through eighth seeded teams will host the ninth through 12th squads in the first round of the tournament at campus sites, March 8. The four winners will then join the teams with the four byes at Cleveland, Ohio's Quicken Loans Arena for the remainder of the single-elimination tournament, March 10-12.
