YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- A renewed hope and energy will be on full display Saturday, Sept. 4, when the 2010 football season kicks off at 7 p.m. inside Rynearson Stadium. Eastern Michigan University welcomes the United State Military Academy (Army) for the second consecutive season. EMU continues to salute all veterans and current members of the United States Armed Forces. Prior to the game, veterans are encouraged to stop by an exclusive tailgate located on the west lawn of the stadium.

EMU VS. ARMY: Army and Eastern Michigan are meeting for the fourth time in the series which started in 1992. The Black Knights hold a 3-0 lead in the matchup, including a 27-14 win, Sept. 5, 2009, in the last meeting at Rynearson Stadium. This will be the second time Army has played in Ypsilanti, but it will not be the last as the Black Knights are scheduled to return during the 2012 season.

EMU HISTORICALLY IN THE HOME OPENER: EMU has historically fared exceptionally well in home-opening contests. The Eagles are 71-42-4 (.624) all-time in openers.

2010 SEASON: The 2010 season will be the 118th for the Eastern Michigan University football team. The first year of intercollegiate football in Ypsilanti was 1891 when the team posted an 0-2 record. EMU has fielded a team every year since 1891 with one exception, when the 1944 season was canceled because of World War II.

35th FOR THE MAC: The 2010 season will mark the 35th year that the Eagles have been a part of the Mid-American Conference football championship race. EMU was admitted into the league in 1971, but a complete league schedule was not available until the 1976 season.

STATELY BREAKDOWN: The EMU football roster has 42 players from the state of Michigan, 16 from Ohio, eight from Florida, six from Illinois, five from California, four from Canada, three each from Indiana and Virginia, two from the states of New York, Georgia, Maryland and Texas and one apiece from Nebraska, Kentucky, South Carolina and Washington D.C. In addition, the Eagles have one player all the way from Australia.

THE GRADUATES: The EMU roster has two players that have completed their undegraduate degrees and are currently working on their master's. Starting offensive lineman Eric Davis (Southgate, Mich.-Anderson) and Dan DeMaster (Macomb, Mich.-L'Anse Creuse Central) are currently enrolled in graduate school.

BROTHER COMBO: The EMU football roster has a set of real-life brothers in Dan and Kyle DeMaster. Dan is a three-year letterman who played high school football at L'Anse Creuse Central while brother Kyle is a sophomore letterman who graduated from Macomb Dakota H.S.

LETTERMEN LEAD THE WAY: The 2010 Eagles return 44 lettermen from the 2009 season.

THEY'VE BEEN HERE BEFORE: All nine EMU football coaches have a combined 151 years of coaching experience.

KICKING GAME HAS A NEW LOOK: With all of the punters and placekickers gone from the 2009 squad, the Eagles have will a brand-new look on those phases of special teams. The punting chores will most likely be handled right away by a player from down under, Jay Karutz (North Ryde, New South Wales, Australia-Holy Cross College). The place-kicking job has envolved a three-way battle in fall camp between freshmen Kody Fulkerson (Roseville, Ohio-Maysville), Owen Dubiel (East Jackson, Mich.-East Jackson), Mike Yocum (Ann Arbor, Mich.-Gabriel Richard) and Florida State University transfer Sean Graham (Commerce Township, Mich.-Orchard Lake St. Mary's).

GLAD TO BE BACK: Both offensive lineman Bridger Buche (Portland, Mich.-Portland) and wide receiver Josh LeDuc (Canton, Mich.-Plymouth) are both glad to be back in action for the Eagles. The two standouts missed the entire 2009 season. Buche has come back from a hip injury last year to reclaim a starting role at left tackle. LeDuc also missed last season and has been slowed down this fall after achilles heel surgery in the off season, but is expected to return some time after the first game against Army, Sept. 4.

EAGLE ALL-ACCESS RETURNS: After a record-setting first year, Eagle All-Access returns in 2010 as the official broadband channel of EMU Athletics. Eagle All-Access is a seamless Internet experience where viewers can follow all of EMU's athletic programs and all of the Eagles' content they desire without ever having to leave.
It is a one-stop-shop for live games, news conferences, coaches' interviews and up-to-the minute scores, news and highlights. Subscription packages are just $5.95 for a 24-hour pass, $9.95 for an entire month or $79.95 for a full calendar year. For more information, visit EMUEagles.com/showcase

EAGLE NATION REWARDS: This year, there will be a brand-new reward program for students, faculty and staff. All you have to do is register and attend EMU athletic events. Some sports are worth more than others. Prizes for points include adidas T-shirts, hoodies, practice shorts, watches and sunglasses.
The top 10 high scores will receive an iPad. The top score will receive a grand prize! For students, that is $500 a month for a year to Meijer and for faculty and staff, a trip for two anywhere of their choice in the U.S.

CLASS BREAKDOWN: The 2010 EMU roster has 16 seniors, 18 juniors, 23 sophomores and 42 freshmen.

QUARTERBACK BATTLE: Sophomore Alex Gillett (Green Springs, Ohio-Clyde) and redshirt freshman Devontae Payne (Cleveland, Ohio-South) waged a spirited battle for the starting quarterback spot in both spring drills and the early fall camp. Gillett, the starter in three of the nine games in which he played during the 2009 season, is expected to start the opener at home, Sept. 4, against Army.
