YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Once allies on the links for the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team, now Cam Burke (Baden, Ontario-Waterloo Secondary) and Christopher Ross (Dundas, Ontario-Parkside) will be fierce competitors at the PGA Tour's RBC Canadian Open, July 19–25, at the 7,132-yard, par-71 St. George's Golf and Country Club in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Burke qualified for the tournament by way of an exemption for winning the Canadian Men's Amateur Championship, while Ross won Monday's qualifier with a four-under 68.
The field for this year's RBC Canadian Open includes Mike Weir, Jim Furyk, Bubba Watson, Ricky Barnes, Scott Verplank, John Daly, Anthony Kim, Sean O'Hair, Rickie Fowler, Camilo Villegas, Hunter Mahan, Luke Donald, Retief Goosen, Tim Clark, Y.E. Yang, Matt Kuchar, Fred Couples, Paul Casey and defending champion Nathan Green.
This will be Burke's second RBC Canadian Open, having missed the two-day cut at Glen Abbey in Oakville last year. Nerves were a factor for him in 2009, but he does not expect they will play a role this time around.
The RBC Canadian Open begins a busy stretch for Burke, a member of Golf Canada's national amateur team who will attempt to win his third straight Canadian men's amateur championship at the London Hunt Club in mid-August. In between Toronto and London, he is scheduled to play the Porter Cup in Niagara Falls, N.Y., and Western Amateur in Glencoe, Ill.
Burke is scheduled to tee off Thursday, July 22, 2:05 p.m. with Aron Price, and Jim Rutledge, followed by a 9:10 a.m. round on Friday, July 23. Ross is paired with Henrik Bjornstad and Dave Bunker for a 2:25 p.m. tee time Thursday and a 8:50 a.m. round on Friday.
