Nino Mebuke and Mariya Toncheva will join Ray's team in the fall

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles) – Eastern Michigan University Women's tennis coach Ryan Ray announced today that the team will add two student-athletes to the 2010-11 roster.

Nino Mebuke (Tbilisi, Georgia) and Mariya Toncheva (Burgas, Bulgaria) will join returning players Miram Westerink, Xu Chang, Karina Ahuja, Georgia de'Lisle-Tarr, Marcela Rivero and Celine Donnet to comprise next year's squad.

Mebuke, a native of the country Georgia, was ranked as high as No. 19 in the European Tennis Association Under-16 league in 2008. It was the same year that she also finished 3rd in singles in the Georgia Women's National Championship and 2nd in doubles in the Georgia Women's National Championship.

Toncheva, a native of Bulgaria, was ranked as high as No. 3 in the Bulgarian Women's National Rankings in 2008.

“I'm very excited about signing Nino and Mariya to scholarships to attend Eastern Michigan in the fall,” Ray said. “Nino comes to EMU as one of the best junior players in Europe, and has some very impressive results on her resume. Mariya has been ranked right alongside some high-level college players that also hail from Bulgaria. Both players should help our program elevate toward the top of the conference. Also, both Nino and Mariya are outstanding students, which is just a great benefit along with their tennis talents.  I'm confident they will be very successful in their four years at EMU.”
