Two EMU Golfers Named to Division I PING All-Region Team

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (EMUEagles.com) – The Golf Coaches Association of America has announced the Division I PING All-Region teams, recognizing collegiate golfers for their outstanding season play. Eastern Michigan University men's golfers Cam Burke (Baden, Ontario-Waterloo Secondary) and Marty Jeppesen (Saline, Mich.-Saline) were honored among the 25 players on the Midwest team.
Burke picked up his second consecutive Mid-American Conference first-team accolade in 2009-10 with an average of 72.7 strokes per round, good for third lowest in the conference. The Baden, Ontario native had a runner-up finish at the FAU Spring Break Championship with a four-under 209 (71-69-69). Burke had 18 rounds of par-or-better this season and 34 rounds in his career. Ranked 193th according to the Golfweek/Sagarin system, he finished in the top 10 in five events this season.
He placed third at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate with a three-under 210 (70-70-70), as the Eagles won the prestigious event with a tournament-record total of 861. Burke took fourth at the MAC Championships with a one-under 287 (74-72-70-71) and tied for sixth at the USF Invitational with a 212 (70-70-72). He also finished tied for 10th with a 217 (70-70-74) at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate and fired rounds of 73, 73 and 74 to take 12th place at The Firestone Invitational.
Jeppesen moved up to the MAC's first team after earning second team honors in 2009 with an average of 73.2 strokes per round, good for eighth lowest in the conference. The Saline, Mich. native had a runner-up finish at The Firestone Invitational with a 212 (69-71-72) and 17 rounds of par-or-better this season and 28 rounds in his career.
Ranked 258th according to the Golfweek/Sagarin system, Jeppesen tied for fourth at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate with a one-under 212 (72-71-69) as the Eagles won the prestigious event. He took home sixth place at the MAC Championships with a 293 (71-74-74-74) along with finishing tied for eighth with an even-par 213 (70-76-67) at the FAU Spring Break Championship
A total of 153 players across six regions - Northeast, East, Southeast, Midwest, Central and West - earned all-region honors for 2010. Members of the PING All-Region teams are now eligible for PING All-America honors.
