Volleyball Announces 2010 Schedule

Eagles to play 10 home contests at the Convocation Center

YPSILANTI, Mich.- (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University volleyball Head Coach Kim Berrington has announced the schedule for the 2010 season. The Eagles will play 33 contests, with 17 non-conference matches, and 16 Mid-American Conference tilts. EMU will play 10 matches at the friendly confines of the Convocation Center, starting with the home opener Sept. 21 against Youngstown State.

The 2010 campaign begins with a trip to Huntsville, Texas for the 35th Annual Comfort Suites Invitational, Aug. 27-28. The Eagles will face Prairie View A&M Friday, Aug. 27, at 9 a.m. and Lousiana-Lafayette at 4:30 p.m., before facing Sam Houston State and Marist on Saturday. The following week the Green and White head to Lewisburg, Pa. for the Bucknell Tournament, Sept. 3-4. Eastern will compete against host Bucknell on Friday, while taking on Iona and and Providence on Saturday.

Finishing up the preseason the Eagles will attend the Spartan Invitational, Sept. 10-11, and the Davidson Invitational Sept. 17-18.

The Eagles open MAC play Sept. 23, hosting Central Michigan, followed by a home match against Kent State, Sept. 25.

October will be busy with the Green and White competing 11 times, five of those on the road.

Senior night will be held Nov. 6, taking on Toledo at 7 p.m.. The season concludes with two road conference games at Northern Illinois and Western Michigan, Nov. 12 and 13.

The MAC Tournament is scheduled for Nov. 16-21. The first round will be held at campus sites Tuesday, Nov. 16. The remainder of the tournament will once again be at the Seagate Center in Toledo, Ohio, Nov. 19-21.

EMU had its share of ups and downs during the 2009 season, posting a 5-28 overall mark and a 4-12 in Mid-American Conference play. The Eagles return four starters from a predominately underclassmen-laden 2009 squad that finished in sixth place in the Mid-American Conference West Division. Sophomore outside hitter Rachel Iaquaniello (3.17 kills per set, 2.20 digs per set) and sophomore Kristen Baker (1.77 kills and 0.71 blocks per set) will lead the way along with senior middle blocker Jennifer Swartz (2.36kills per set and 0.84 blocks per set). Junior Ashley Mason returns for her third year setting the table for the EMU offense, recording 8.77 assists per set.
