YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)—Eastern Michigan University senior rower Janelle Mitchell (Chicago, Ill.-Morgan Park) was named to the Division I All-Central Region Second Team by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association announced the 2010 all-region award-winners. These awards recognize the outstanding performances of rowers and coxswains from each of the five regions, organized into first and second-team selections.
Nominated student-athletes are evaluated on the strength of their team's regional finish, coaches' recommendations and 2,000-meter erg score. Nominees must be eligible student-athletes who have competed in their teams' varsity boat in 75 percent of races this season.
Also announced by the CRCA, eight EMU student-athletes earned national scholar-athlete recognition. Heather Anderson (St. Catharines, Ont.-Holly Cross), Leigh Azkoul (Alda, Mich.-Forest Hills Central), Kate Dirks (St. Catharines, Ont.-Holly Cross), Kristen Dunkin (Tripp City, Ohio-Tippecanoe), Anamarie Esteva (Ann Arbor, Mich.-Gabriel Richard), Jennifer Fox (Waterford, Mich.-Home School), Noel McAuliffe (Goodrich, Mich.-Goodrich) and Mitchell were the honorees.
In order to be eligible for this award, student-athletes must have completed at least one year of eligibility, competed in at least 75 percent of her teams spring races and maintain a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher for her career (through the fall semester/quarter for the current competition year).
