Scherer, Gerber Selected to All-MAC First Team

EMU's Senior Jenny Scherer and sophomore Sarah Gerber earned first team All-MAC honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Mid-American Conference announced today the end of the season softball awards and Eastern Michigan University was well represented, putting two athletes on the first team for the first time since 2007.

Senior Jenny Scherer and sophomore Sarah Gerber each turned in stellar 2010 campaigns donning the green and white and were almost able to lead the Eagles to a MAC tournament appearance in 2010.

This marks the fourth All-MAC honor for Scherer, adding another first team selection with two second team picks over the course of her career. She concludes her sensational career as the school's all-time leader in home runs and runs batted in. She hit 12 home runs in 2010, giving her 48 career long balls which doubled the previous record set by Lauren Clark ('07). She totaled 33 RBIs this season which put her at 131 for her career, seven more than Melissa Drouillard's ('96) previous standard.

Scherer batted .316 on the season and set career high's in hits (48) and stolen bases (9). She was voted on by her peer's as the team's top offensive player and Eagle award winner, presented to the player who most exemplifies leadership on-and-off the field.

Gerber turned in a solid year at the dish and behind it defensively. At the catcher position, the sophomore registered a .977 fielding percentage while picking off two base runners, allowing just two passed balls and gunning down 25 potential base stealers. With the bat, she ended the year with an 11-game hitting streak to bring her average up to .301 on the season. In conference play, she hit .351 and was tied for the league lead in doubles with eight.

The Eagles finished the season with an overall record of 19-30-1, 8-13-1 in MAC play.
