Sophomore guard earns second career weekly conference accolade
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University sophomore guard Tavelyn James (Detroit, Mich.-Mumford) was named Mid-American Conference Women's Basketball West Division Player of the Week, the conference office announced today, March 7. It marks the second time she has won the award in her career.
James emerged from her recent offensive slump to lead the Eagles (21-7, 11-5 MAC), tying a career-high and an EMU record with 40 points on 13-of-22 shooting from the field, including 4-of-9 from beyond the arc and 10-of-11 from the free throw line in the 89-84 overtime victory over MAC West Champion Toledo, March 2.
James notched an EMU record 13 points in overtime, including 8-of-8 from the line. James' performance in overtime allowed her to surpass the 1,000-point plateau for her career in less than two full seasons dawning the Green and White uniform. She finished the game with 1,008 career points, good for 15th on the all-time scoring list. She also needs just 20 points to tie Laurie Byrd for the all-time single season scoring mark of 602 points in one campaign
