OXFORD, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team placed seven swimmers on the podium Friday, Feb. 26, as the Eagles ended the day in fourth place among seven Mid-American Conference teams at the 2010 MAC Championships hosted by Miami.
In the evening's first event, the 400-yard medley relay, the Eagles placed seventh. The foursome of Sarah Maraskine, Chelsea Allard, Leeza Moser and Sarah Kowalski finished with a time of 3:48.93, behind event winner, Toledo, which touched the wall in a pool record and Division I-B qualifying time of 3:40.06.
In the 400 IM, Briana Emig and Moser finished just out of the medals, but made it onto the podium, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. Emig turned in a time of 4:23.81 while Moser finished in 4:24.49. Kelsey Vehr of Miami took the win in a pool record time of 4:16.72.
The Eagles fell shy of qualifying anyone in the 100 fly with Elisa Torres finishing one spot out of qualifying during prelims earlier in the day. She was less than a half-second outside the top-16. However, the Green and White saw their highest finisher in the next event, the 200 free, when Kowalski took a third place medal with a Division I-B qualifying time of 1:48.86. Jacy Dyer of Toledo captured another MAC title with a time of 1:47.62. EMU's Samantha Partridge, who finished third in the 500 free Thursday, was one place shy of matching that finish in the 200 free Friday after a fourth place finish.
Allard placed in the 100 breaststroke, touching the wall in eighth with a time of 1:04.14. In the 100 backstroke, the Eagles put two in the top-six with Maraskine finishing fourth with a Division I-B qualifying time of 55.18. Amanda Kiefer took sixth with a time 55.75.
