Senior Monique Budani was named Defensive Player of the Year while Paige Sheridan, Julie Kaim and Stephanie Clarke were also named All-MAC
TOLEDO, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Four members of the Eastern Michigan University women's soccer team were given All-Mid-American Conference honors as the All-MAC teams were announced by the conference office today, Nov. 5.
Senior goalkeeper Monique Budani (Whitby, Ontario-Sinclair) claimed the highest honor for her position as she was named the Defensive Player of the Year after leading the league with 146 saves, 50 more than her closest competitor. She also led the MAC with a .874 save percentage while posting a 1.03 goals against average.
Budani goes down as the most decorated goalkeeper in EMU women's soccer program history as she departs with single-season and career saves records as well as the all-time mark in save percentage (.872). Additionally, she is second on the all-time list in minutes played, second in shutouts (23), third in wins (27) and third in GAA (0.94).
Joining Budani on the All-MAC first team is fellow senior Paige Sheridan (Farmington Hills, Mich.-Mercy). Sheridan had a career season, scoring eight goals while tallying four assists to finish tied for fourth in the league with 20 points. She scored six goals in conference play which tied her for the most all season with Offensive Player of the Year Stephanie Skowneski of Western Michigan.
Sheridan concludes her career at EMU eighth on the all-time list with 16 goals and ninth all-time with 43 points. This season, the Farmington Hills, Mich. native strung together five consecutive matches with at least one point scored and an eight-match span of scoring 15 points with six of those matches being multi-point efforts.
Garnering All-MAC second team honors were junior defender Julie Kaim (Palos Hills, Ill.-AA Stagg) and freshman forward Stephanie Clarke (London, Ontario-St. Thomas Aquinas). Kaim earns her third straight All-MAC honor following first team and All-Freshman team honors in her first two seasons. She tallied a goal and two assists while starting every game for the Eagles this season.
Clarke was named to the All-Freshman team in addition to her second team honor this season. The rookie made a name for herself early and often this season as she tied for third in the MAC with 14 points in conference play. She was tied for fifth in goals alone as she registered four, nearly recording a hat trick in a 4-1 win over Akron in which she tallied two scores.
The Eagles were MAC Tournament qualifiers for the 14th time in program history, having not qualified only once. They saw their season come to an abrupt end as Western Michigan upended EMU in first round action that went to a penalty kick shootout. The Eagles and Broncos played to a scoreless tie through regulation and two overtimes before WMU prevailed, 4-2, in the decisive shootout.
