Two top Michigan high school preps sign letters of intent

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University Head Men's Basketball Coach Charles E. Ramsey has announced that the Eagles have signed two top state of Michigan high school players to national letters of intent for the 2011 season.

Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard's Darren Washington and Caledonia's Paul Tenharmsel have chosen EMU. Both players will complete their senior seasons in 2010-11 and be eligible to play for the Eagles in 2011-12.

“We are very excited to get two of the top seniors in the state of Michigan in this recruiting class,” Ramsey said. “Darren Washington and Paul Tenharmsel are both outstanding young men who are only going to get better as their basketball careers continue. We are also excited to have a local player like Darren join our program.”

The 6-foot-10 Washington began his prep career at Detroit Southeastern High School before transferring to Gabrial Richard in 2009. He was ineligible for the first half of the 2009-10 season and then joined the team as a full-time player in the second semester and played 12 games, averaging 8.8 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.3 blocks.

Tenharmsel, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard, averaged 9.0 points and 2.0 rebounds as a junior and he is expected to be one of the top players in the state in the 2010-11 season.
