Volleyball’s Haley Stein Selected Academic All-MAC

Sophomore earns the honor with a 3.81 GPA as an undecided major
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University sophomore libero Haley Stein (Carleton, Mich.-Monroe St. Mary's Catholic Central) was selected to the 2009 Academic All Mid-American Conference volleyball team announced Tuesday, Jan. 6. The award was voted upon by faculty athletic representatives at MAC institutions.
Stein, who has a 3.81 GPA, was the lone Eagle selected to the 19-member team.
The Carleton, Mich. native played in all of the team's 130 sets this season as the libero. She averaged 4.48 digs, 0.40 assists and 0.16 service per set, ranking fourth in the league is digs and 89th nationally. Stein recorded the most digs on the team with 582 and notched 10-or-more digs in 28 matches, including a career-best 31 digs in a five-set thriller versus Central Michigan University (Sept. 25).
Stein had the second most services aces on the team with 21 and she picked up a career-best three kills versus Arkansas State (Oct. 12).
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
