STRONG START: EMU’s 10-10 record this season is the best start since the 2002-03 squad went 10-10 in its first 20 games.
CHECKING THE SERIES WITH AKRON: The Eagles and Zips will be meeting for the 35th time in a series that began in the 1967-68 season. The series is tied at 17-17, but the Zips have won the last seven games in a row. EMU’s last win was a 77-54 victory, Feb. 7, 2004, in Ypsilanti, Mich. The last EMU win in Akron, Ohio was a 61-60 decision, Jan. 7, 2002, at the James A. Rhodes Arena.
Head Coach Charles E. Ramsey’s Eagles enter Monday’s, Feb. 1, game with a 10-10 overall record and a 2-5 MAC mark after dropping a 61-51 MAC crossdivisional game at Miami Saturday, Jan. 30.
Head Coach Keith Dambrot’s Zips are currently 15-6 overall and 5-2 in MAC action after posting a 59-45 win over a visiting Toledo team Saturday, Jan. 30. Dambrot, now in his sixth year as Akron’s head man, was an assistant coach at EMU from 1986-87 through the 1988-89 season.
EAGLES HEAD INTO THIRD STRAIGHT EAST DIVISION GAME: After opening the Mid-American Conference season with fi ve straight West Division opponents, the Eagles have now turned their attention to the East Division with a six-game slate against cross-divisional rivals. Bowling Green was EMU’s first East Division exposure of the season Wednesday, Jan. 27, and EMU lost a 64-61 decision. After that game the Eagles dropped a 61-51 contest at Miami, Jan. 30. The Eagles play next at Akron, Feb. 1, before hosting Kent State, Feb. 4, and Ohio, Feb. 6.
TELEVISION TIME: Monday’s, Feb. 1, Eastern Michigan at Akron game will be televised on FoxSports Ohio and FoxSports Detroit with a 7 p.m. tip. Michael Reghi will handle the play-by-play duties while Steve Mix will serve as the analyst.
