Vollmar Wins MAC Male Track Athlete of the Week

Senior posts conference-best mark in the mile run
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Curtis Vollmar (Grand Blanc, Mich.-Grand Blanc), senior runner for the Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team, won the award for Mid-American Conference Male Track Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 24, 2010. The award is presented weekly to the conference's most outstanding runner.
At the University of Michigan's Harvey-Simmons Invitational, Jan. 23, Volmar posted an adjusted time of 4:08.15 in the one mile run while competing against Michigan, Central Michigan University, Valparaiso University, Oakland University and other unattached competitors. His time was the fastest mile run in the MAC and in the state of Michigan this year. It also marked the 17th-fastest time in the nation this year.
This is the first time Vollmar has won the award this season, and the third time in his career.
The Eagles will next be in competition Saturday, Jan. 30, as the team travels to Mount Pleasant, Mich. to battle the Chippewas of Central Michigan.
