Senior grappler wins fourth-career MAC weekly honor
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com)— Eastern Michigan University senior Sean Clair (Turtlecreek, Pa.-Plum) was named Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Week for the period ending Jan. 17, the conference office announced Tuesday. This marks the fourth time in Clair's career that he has earned the weekly award, having also received the honor three times during the 2007-08 season. He is also the first EMU wrestler to earn the award this season.
Clair has won six consecutive dual matches and went 4-0 over the weekend, beginning with a 3-1 decision over Clarion University's Jay Ivanco Friday, Jan. 15.
At the Spartan Duals Saturday, Jan. 16, Clair notched a pin of No. 17 ranked Bill Ashnault from Rutgers University at the 3:56 mark of the 133 lbs. bout to give Eastern Michigan its only lead of the day against the Scarlet Knights, 6-3. Clair also notched a 7-2 decision over Jan Vlinski from University of Findlay and a 1-0 shutout over Stanford University's Justin Paulson to improve his season record to a team-best 18-9.
Head coach Derek DelPorto's crew returns to action Thursday, Jan. 21, when it hosts Central Michigan University at Bowen Field House beginning at 7 p.m.
