YPSILANTI, Mich. —
The sixth annual E-Gridiron Group Golf Outing in support of Eastern Michigan University Football is Monday, June 15, at Eagle Crest Golf Course in Ypsilanti and there are several exciting additions to the sixth annual event.

Former U-M head football coach Lloyd Carr, who was also an assistant football coach at EMU from 1976-77, will be attending the golf event and also serve as the main speaker at the dinner reception following golf.

Carr retired from the University of Michigan after the 1977 season and recorded a 122-40 record during his 13 seasons at the Wolverines' head man. His teams won five Big Ten titles and he had an 81-23 Big Ten record during his tenure. Carr's 1997 U-M football team won the national championship.

Another exciting addition to this year's outing is an auction for a chance to add new EMU head football coach Ron English as a fifth member of a foursome. The bidding starts at $250 and closes at noon on June 10. Bids must be submitted along with a copy of your registration form for the tournament. There are also several new sponsorship opportunities, and the dinner will feature an expanded raffle and silent auction with prizes such as autographed athletic memorabilia, exclusive EMU football gear, and gift certificates for area hotels and restaurants.

"My entire staff is looking forward to meeting the many supporters of EMU Football and this golf outing is a great way to do that," English said of this year's outing. "The EGG is working hard to ensure this is the most fun-filled tournament yet. Our former players and other supporters and friends of EMU Football will not want to miss this event."

The golf outing is sponsored by the E-Gridiron Group (EGG) which was formed in the spring of 2006 with its early focus set on building a leadership level of fund-raising support for EMU football. During the past three years the EGG has helped to raise more than $700,000. This is the largest amount of actual gifts received to date for a non-facility related project by a single group in EMU Athletics history. This has helped to provide the football program with numerous upgrades and is helping to level the playing field with the rest of the Mid-American Conference.

"The E-Gridiron Group has been an invaluable resource for the football program and our student-athletes," said Director of Athletics Dr. Derrick Gragg. "Our mission in Athletics is to guide support and inspire our student-athletes in their pursuit of excellence, academically, athletically and socially. The generosity and efforts of the EGG allows us to fulfill that mission and has a direct and significant impact on the quality of experience we are able to provide to our football players."

Since its official beginning in 2006, the EGG has expanded its goals and objectives to include not only fundraising, but developing a broader membership program targeted at former football players, which will be expanded to all family and fans of EMU football in the summer of 2009. Nearly 300 former football players have joined since the EGG began. For more information on the E-Gridiron Group, visit www.emueaglesfootball.com.

The cost for this year's EGG Golf Outing is $160 for an individual golfer and $500 per foursome (a savings of $140). For more information on the event or to register for the outing, please contact EMU Director of Football Operations Jake Kirkendall at 734.487.3420.
