J.J. Johnson Ranked Third in MAC Preseason Poll

Sophomore grappler led EMU with 19 wins last season
CLEVELAND, Ohio-- The Mid-American Conference wrestling coaches announced the preseason weight class individual rankings in conjunction with the MAC league office Friday, Oct. 30. Eastern Michigan University sophomore grappler J.J. Johnson (Rockford, Mich.-Rockford) received third place in the rankings at 149 lbs.
Johnson was ranked ahead of Tony D'Alie from Central Michigan University and behind University at Buffalo's Desi Green and Kent State University's Matt Cathell, respectively.
In the 2008-09 campaign, Johnson posted a team-best 19-10 record which included a 3-2 mark in MAC competiton. He represented the Eagles at the MAC Championship at 149 lbs., where he went 2-1 with a pin to his credit.
The rankings will be released on the second Tuesday of each month throughout the season, with one additional ranking system (two total) in January and February.
The Eagles will begin the 2009-10 season with the 18th annual EMU Open Saturday, Nov. 7, at Bowen Field House. The action begins at 9 a.m.
