EVANSTON, Ill. (EMUEagles.com) -
Eastern Michigan University junior Xu Chang entered the main draw as a "lucky loser," as the tournament calls it, at the ITA Regional Championship at Northwestern, Saturday, Oct. 24.

After an unsuccessful bid in her final qualifying round matchup, Xu had a chance for redemption against Ohio State's Cami Hubbs. Xu cashed in with a 6-4, 7-6 victory over the Big Ten opponent.

After the win advanced her to the round of 32, Xu was matched against DePaul's Anna Redesci, but couldn't overcome the challenge. Redesci, who is ranked 66th in the nation, defeated Xu in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0.

"I was happier with the quality of our play today," said Eagles Head Coach Ryan Ray. "Chang defeated a solid Ohio State player, however, was just outmatched in the second round. Now we will prepare for the start of the team season in January and hope to maximize our potential then."

The Eagles will utilize the next two months to train and recover from preseason injuries before heading into team play in January.
