Tennis heads to Northwestern for final preseason match of the season

EVANSTON, Ill. (EMUEagles.com)—The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team headed west today to Northwestern University to participate in the ITA Midwest Regional Championships. The five-day event starts today and wraps up Tuesday, Oct. 27.

There are 19 teams competing in this year's Midwest Regional, including seven from the Big Ten and four from the Mid-American Conference. The field includes: Akron, Cleveland State, DePaul, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Illinois-Chicago, Illinois State, Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne, Iowa, Marquette, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Toledo, Western Michigan, Wisconsin and Youngstown State.

“This is a good opportunity for us to compete hard to end the fall season and to gain some respect in our region,” said Head Coach #Ryan Ray#. “This tournament is for the best players in the Midwest, so I'm looking for some strong performances to gain some momentum going into our off-season and into January for the team season.”

The Eagles will take six players into competition for singles and the same six will be matched together in doubles matches as well. #Xu Chang#, #Julia Breuss#, #Miriam Westerink#, #Karina Ahuja#, #Celine Donnet and Marcela Rivero# will face off in singles before pairing up for doubles competition Friday. The teams are Breuss-Westerink, Ahuja-Donnet and Xu-Rivero.
