YPSILANTI, Mich.—The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team finished fourth out of six teams at the 2009 Michigan Intercollegiate Championships Friday and Saturday, Jan. 30-31, at Bob Parks Track in Bowen Field House. The University of Michigan won the meet with 216.50 points, followed by Western Michigan Universty (122.50), Central Michigan University (106.50) Eastern Michigan University (47.50) Oakland University (23) and the University of Detroit (9).

Sophomore Beverly Elcock (Fort Wayne, Ind.-Northrop) had a huge day, setting almost a four-second personal best in the 800 meters, running 2:10.92 to win the event, beating her nearest opponent, a Michigan runner, by over two seconds. Freshman Rosie White (New Albany, Ohio-New Albany) also took home a first place finish, winning the 200-meter dash with a collegiate career-best time of 25.42 seconds. She also took fourth in the long jump and sixth in the triple jump.

Freshman Rachel Hollinger-Janzen (Goshen, Ind-Goshebn) broke the 18-minute barrier in the 5,000-meter run, completing it in 17:59.94 to finish fifth. Fellow Freshman Natalie Webb (Allen Park, Mich.-Woodhaven) had a successful double, finishing sixth in the mile and seventh in the 3,000-meter run.

In the field events, junior Jessica Novakowski (Wixom, Mich.- Walled Lake Western) led the way, clearing a career-best 11-11.75 in the pole vault. Freshman Angela Scarber (Waterford, Mich.-Waterford) had a career-best, throwing 41-11.75 in the shot put.

The Eagles, with their final home meet under their belt, will hit the road for the two-day Meyo Invitational Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7-8.
