Eagles claim two singles match victories
YPSILANTI, Mich. The Eastern Michigan University women’s tennis team lost a 5-2 match today, here at the Chippewa Racquet Club, to Mid-American Conference foe Western Michigan University.
"I thought we competed fairly well today, however Western Michigan won a lot of the key points early, which is why they haven’t lost a regular season MAC match in over three years," said head coach Ryan Ray. "As we continue to compete, that will translate into more wins and we look forward to another tough match against Toledo on Friday."
The Eagles drop to 5-10 and 1-1 in MAC action, while the No. 74 Broncos improve to 8-7 and 2-0, respectively.
The Eagles dropped all three doubles matches and the first three singles before Aleksandra Stankovic came through with a win a the No. 5 spot. In two sets, she defeated Ashley Moccia 6-4, 6-3. Tina Bestehorn, at the No. 4 singles spot, came back from a first-set loss to claim the victory in a three-set thriller, defeating Emily Dudzik, 3-6, 6-0, 6-4.
The Eagles are back in action on Friday, March 28, when they play host to the University of Toledo. Match time is set for 1 p.m. at the Chippewa Racquet Club in Ypsilanti.
