Men's Basketball Team Loses Medlock for Season
Senior point guard suffers broken foot for second time in his career
Carlos Medlock

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team received some bad news when head coach Charles E. Ramsey announced that senior point guard Carlos Medlock (Detroit, Mich.-Murrary Wright) will be sidelined for the 2008-09 season due to a broken right foot. Medlock, who broke the same foot midway through the 2006-07 season, is expected to have surgery Tuesday, Nov. 4.

"This is a severe setback for our team to lose a person like Carlos Medlock," Ramsey said. "Carlos is one of the top guards in the Mid-American Conference and he has been a major part of our team for the past three years. I know that Carlos was excited about the prospect of big things in his senior season and I really feel badly for him. I'm sure that he will have a great chance at coming back next year as a medical hardship and we just have to move on from here. Any time you lose your floor general and leading scorer, it hurts, but we have young men that now get an opportunity to fill the void and grow in our program."

Ramsey and Medlock had just returned from the MAC Basketball Press Preview in Cleveland, Ohio, Oct. 30, when the bad news was received from the medical staff. Medlock had been selected to the MAC West Division preseason All-League team and the Eagles were chosen to finish runner-up in the West Division by the MAC News Media Association.

The 6-foot, 186-pound Medlock was entering the 2008-09 season as one of the top players on the squad. In his first three seasons, Medlock played in 77 games, 76 as a starter. He is the 26th player in school history to score at least 1,000 points with 1,032, good for 26th on the all-time EMU rankings. Medlock also ranks eighth in three-point field goals (138), 13th in career assists (279) and is tied for 79th in career rebounding (215). During his career he has scored in double figures 58 times and has scored 20 or more points in 18 contests.

Last season Medlock started all 31 games and was an honorable mention All-MAC player. He finished in the top nine in the MAC in five categories, including ranking eighth in scoring (14.8), fourth in assists (4.1), sixth in assists-to-turnover ratio (1.18), eighth in free-throw percentage (.818) and ninth in three-point field goals (2.03).
