It's MAC Cross Country Championship Time
Women head to championships this weekend

IT'S MAC CHAMPIONSHIP TIME!: It's that time of year for the women's cross country team as they head to Mt. Pleasant, Mich., to compete in the 2007 Mid-American Conference Championships. The women's race is set to start at 11 a.m. They try to improve upon their ninth place finish at last year's championship in Buffalo.
 
The Eagles will look to their top two runners to lead them at the conference championships. Senior Kalli Williams and junior Melissa Green look to finish atop the MAC's best this weekend.
 
Williams, a second team All-MAC selection last year as well as Academic All-MAC selection has run in five of five meets this season for the Green and White. She has been the number one runner for the Eagles in all five meets this fall that she has competed in. She has finished in the top 10 in all five of those meets. She has also finished runner-up twice this season at the Detroit Run Fit Invitational and the Central Collegiate Championship She ran a season-best 18:06 at the Chicago Loyola Lakefront Invitational where she finished eighth against 203 runners. She finished seventh at Falcon Invite with a time of 18:07.
 
Green, who barely missed out on an All-MAC selection last year, looks to improve upon last year's 17th place performance. She has run in five of six meets during the regular season and has finished as the number two runner for the Eagles all season long as well as finishing in the top 15 in all five meet. She ran a career-best at the Falcon Invitational 18:17, breaking previous best by eight seconds and has improved by a total of 13 seconds this season. Her highest finish came at the Detroit Run Fit Invitational where she finished fourth. She finished eighth at the Central Collegiate Championships, 11th at Falcon Invitational, 12th at Loyola Lakefront and 15th at Michigan Open.
 
Newcomer Lauren Quaintance has emerged as the no. three runner for the Eagles. She most recently finished has the top finisher at the EMU Classic where Williams and Green did not run, but has finished third for the Eagles in the previous five meets. She has run a season and collegiate-best time of 19:30 at the Loyola Invitational.
 
The Green and White have seen Megan Flewelling emerge as the number four runner for the Eagles through the entirety of the season. She had a season-best time of 19:57 at the Falcon Invitational.
 
The Eagles will then look to four runners to fill the five through seven spots on the squad as these four have finished in those spots throughout the season. They are Hayden Ahrens, Nicole Boeving, Anna Delcamp and Morgan Newman.
 
EAGLES AT THE CLASSIC: Lauren Quaintance was the top runner for the Eagles. She finished the women's 5K race in a time of 19:53 in 25th place. Other Eagle finishers include Morgan Newman (29; 20:25), Anna Delcamp (31; 20:26), Megan Flewelling (36; 20:40), Nicole Boeving (43; 21:59) and Hayden Ahrens (44; 22:01).
 
FALCON INVITE RECAP: The Eagles took eighth place at the annual Falcon Invitational, Oct. 13, totalling 200 points. They were once again led by senior Kalli Williams who had another top 10 performance, finishing seventh in a time of 18:07. Melissa Green was next in 11th place, tying a season and personal-best time of 18:17.
 
WILLIAMS LEADS EAGLES IN CHICAGO: The Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team traveled to Chicago, Ill., to compete against numerous teams at the 35th Annual Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational, Sept. 28. The Eagles finished 12th overall as a team with 275 points. Purdue won the team title, finishing with 80 points.
 
Senior Kalli Williams was the top runner for the Eagles for the fourth time this season. She finished the 5K race in a season-best 18:06, good for an eighth place finish. This was also her fourth in as many times this season that she has finished in the top-ten.
 
Melissa Green finished four spots behind her teammate in 12th place. She finished the 5K course in a season-best 18:25. Lauren Quaintance was the next Eagle across the tape, finishing in 61st place in a time of 19:30. Megan Flewelling was next, finishing 122nd with a time of 20:23. Rounding out the top five for the Eagles was Morgan Newman, finishing 127th in a time of 20:32. Anna Delcamp was the final Eagle across the line in 134th place in a time of 20:39.
 
WILLIAMS SECOND, EAGLES FOURTH AT CCC's: The Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team traveled to Kalamazoo, Mich., to compete in the annual Central Collegiate Championships, Sept. 21. Teams competing included instate rivals Central and Western Michigan as well as fellow MAC foe, Toledo. Central walked away with the team title with 36 points while the Eagles finished fourth with 83 points.
 
Senior Kalli Williams led the way for the Green and White for the third consecutive meet this season. She fought off a tough opponent from Toledo to finish second in a time of 18:29.72. Junior Melissa Green was next to reach the tape, finishing eighth in a time of 18:53.87.
 
Freshman Lauren Quaintance led the next pack of Eagles across the finish line. She ran the 5K race in a time of 20:21.64, finishing 28. Megan Flewelling was next in a time of 20:48.73, to finish 34. The rest of the Eagle pack included Anna Delcamp (35; 20:48.73), Newman (37; 21:01.37), Hayden Ahrens (44; 22:23.50) and Nicole Boeving (46; 23:27.96).
 
EAGLES SECOND IN DETROIT: The Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team competed at the 2007 Running Fit Titan Invitational hosted by the University of Detroit Mercy Saturday. The Eagles finished second with 49 points behind Wayne State University, who won with 26 points.
 
For the second week in a row, senior Kalli Williams (Dexter, Mich.- Dexter) was first across the line for the Eagles. She finished second in a time of 18:16. She bettered her 5K mark for the season from the previous week. Behind Williams in fourth was junior Melissa Green (Brecksville, Ohio- Broadview Heights), finishing in a time of 19:17.
 
The next Green and White runner was freshman Quaintance, who finished in 14 place with a time of 20:20. Sophomore Megan Flewelling (Grand Blanc, Mich.-Powers Catholic) was next across the line finishing 17 in a time of 20:54.
 
Junior Anna Delcamp (Ypsilanit, Mich.- Ypsilanti) was the fifth runner across the line for the Eagles. She finished 24 in a time of 21:39. Freshman Morgan Newman was next, finishing 26, in a time of 21:47. The final two to cross the line for the Green and White were Nicole Boeving (31; 22:15) and freshman Hayden Ahrens (35; 22:27).
 
EAGLES FACE MICHIGAN: The Eastern Michigan University women's cross country program opened its 2007 season at the annual Michigan Open against cross town rivals, the University of Michigan Wolverines.
 
Junior Kalli Williams lead the way for the Green and White. She finished sixth in the 5,000-meter race, running a time of 18:38.
 
Melissa Green was the next Eagle across the finish line. She crossed 15 in a time of 19:24. Other harriers running for the Green and White were Lauren Quaintance (21; 20:54), Megan Flewelling (23; 21:55), Anna Delcamp (24; 22:03), Morgan Newman (25; 22:43), Hayden Ahrens (26; 23:25) and Nicole Boeving (27; 24:00).
 
WOMEN PICKED TO FINISH NINTH IN MAC: The Mid-American Conference released its 2007 cross country preseason poll and the Eastern Michigan Eagles were picked to finish ninth at the Championships in October.
 
Head coach Sue Parks will return a second-team All-MAC selection in senior Kalli Williams (Dexter, Mich./Dexter) who turned in a 13th place performance. Williams will be joined by junior Melissa Green (Brecksville, Ohio/Broadview Heights) who finished 17th.
 
The 2007 MAC Championships will take place on Oct. 27 and will be hosted by Central Michigan.
