Shoemaker Takes Care of Business in 3-2 Win Over Rockets

The Eastern Michigan University baseball team held off a late Toledo rally in the ninth for its 13 conference win, beating the Rockets 3-2. Junior Matt Shoemaker threw a complete game in the winning effort, scattering nine hits and two runs, fanning four UT batters along the way. Senior Josh Ivan went 3-for-4 at the plate, driving in all three EMU runs.

For the second consecutive year the Eastern Michigan University wrestling team has been ranked in the NWCA’s (National Wrestling Coaches Association) annual Division I All-Academic Top 30. EMU finished the 2008 season ranked No. 22 in the country and first among the four Division I Universities in the state of Michigan (Michigan, Michigan State, Central Michigan). Along with the state best team ranking, seniors Cory Mancuso and Charlie Pienaar were selected to the nationwide All-Academic Team.

Eastern Michigan University senior first baseman Steve Bradshaw has been named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA (College of Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-District IV baseball second team, the organization announced today, May 8. Bradshaw was one of three Mid-American Conference players to be named to the district.

Eastern Michigan University head women’s basketball coach AnnMarie Gilbert has announced that Tavelyn James from Detroit Mumford High School has signed a National Letter of Intent and will enroll at EMU beginning this fall. James, a 5-foot-7 guard, averaged 23.2 points, 4.4 steals, 3.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game as a senior last year for the Mustangs.
