Entering his second year at EMU is Steve Morrison, who came to Ypsilanti after spending five seasons, the last two as defensive coordinator, at Western Michigan University. Morrison will coach the linebackers.
Morrison began his Western Michigan coaching career in 2005 as the defensive line coach and was the linebackers coach in 2006 and 2007 before becoming the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach from 2008-09. The 2006 and 2008 Broncos qualified for post-season bowl games, playing in the International Bowl after the 2006 season and the Texas Bowl at the completion of the 2008 campaign.
The 39-year-old Morrison graduated from the University of Michigan in 1994 with a bachelor’s degree in sport management and communications after turning in a stellar five-year football career for the Wolverines after receiving a medical hardship for his freshman year. He was a first-team All-Big Ten performer and co-captain in 1994 and ranks 10th in career tackles.
Morrison went on to play four seasons in the National Football League with the Indianapolis Colts (1995-98).
Morrison started 31 games over four seasons for the Colts and was on the team that played in the 1995 AFC Championship Game. He also served two seasons (2000-01) as defensive coordinator at Brother Rice High School, helping the Warriors to a state title in 2000.
He served as defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator. Morrison previously coached at the University of Michigan, spending two seasons as the graduate assistant in charge of outside linebackers (2003-04) and a year in quality control for defense (2002).
A Birmingham, Mich. native, Steve is married to the former Mary Campana and they are the parents of three sons, Alexander (9) , Marco (6) and Roman (3).
